Lucas Yoakam
Trumpet Instructor | Champaign, IL
Lucas Yoakam, trumpet, is a current graduate student at the University of Illinois where he is working to receive his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and Literature. Prior to his time in Illinois he received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Iowa State University, and his Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from Texas State University.While in Iowa, Lucas performed actively with the Fort Dodge Symphony, Karl King Municipal Band, and the Ames Municipal Band. He also has performed with the Grinnell College Symphony, with the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra when they traveled through Iowa, and numerous times for the World Food Prize held in Des Moines. While in Texas he worked with the trumpets at middle and high schools in central Texas. He also performed with the brass sections of the Austin and San Antonio Symphonies in benefit concerts to support the San Antonio Symphony. Lucas currently works as a teaching assistant with the Marching Illini at the University of Illinois and teaches private lessons.
His major trumpet teachers include Dr. Jim Bovinette (Iowa State), Dr. Keith Winking (Texas State), Bob Cannon (Texas State), and Dr. Amy Gilreath (University of Illinois).
In his free time, JaKobe enjoys composing, watching tv, running and cooking.
Lea Humphreys
French Horn Instructor | Champaign, IL
Lea Humphreys is current pursuing her doctorate in Horn Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she is studying with Bernhard Scully. A native of Maryland, she received her bachelor’s in Horn Performance at the University of Maryland, where her primary teachers were Gregory Miller and Phil Munds. She went on to receive her masters in Horn Performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Adam Unsworth and Bryan Kennedy.
Lea has had numerous experiences performing experience from participating in multiple ensembles at each school she attended. Groups include the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, University of Michigan Symphony Band, University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Illinois Graduate Brass Quintet. Along with performing, Lea has been teaching for the last 7 years including private lessons, horn supplemental class, and brass quintet coaching.
